ABOUT THE FOUNDER
Tribeca Piano Studio was founded in 2009 by pianist Marta Abraham-Nagyi.
She served for almost a decade as a member of the piano faculty (both Suzuki and Traditional programs), chamber music coach, senior accompanist, and for a year as Coordinator of the Chamber Music department at the L.E. Center for Preparatory Studies in Music, Aaron Copland School of Music, Queens College, CUNY. Between 2006 and 2009 as Music Director, she established and coordinated the music department of miniMasters, an exclusive learning center in Tribeca. Since 2011 she is on the piano faculty of School for Strings, New York’s premiere Suzuki-based music school, where she completed her Suzuki teacher training, and received her Suzuki Teacher’s Certification in 2006. As a native Hungarian, Marta’s entire music education was based on the Kodály method, therefore she incorporates this world-wide recognized approach in her teaching.
Marta holds a “Summa cum Laude” Masters of Music and Artist Diploma (in Piano Performance and Pedagogy) that she received at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, Hungary in 1999. Besides her teaching career, Marta is an active performer – she has performed concerts throughout Europe and the US, both as soloist and as chamber musician. She has also appeared in concerts as soloist with one of the most distinguished Hungarian Symphony Orchestras. Several of her concerts were broadcast live by the Hungarian State Radio for which she has also made a number of exclusive recordings. As a passionate chamber musician she has participated in duos, trios, quartets and quintets, collaborated with various instrumentalists (violin, viola, cello, oboe, clarinet, flute, trumpet, among others) and vocalists/opera singers on numerous concerts, music festivals and competitions. Her Steinway Hall concert appearance with cellist Istvan Vardai in 2009 was recorded and broadcast by WQXR Radio.
Marta has been teaching piano to students of all ages and levels (beginners to advanced) since 1996. Many of the students she has worked with were accepted at prestigious music institutions (Bloomington, Juilliard, Mannes, among others) throughout the US.
ABOUT TRIBECA PIANO STUDIO
Marta is fully dedicated to bring up a younger generation of passionate piano players and musicians. That’s why she created Tribeca Piano Studio.
The difference that sets TP apart from other programs – and the reason for its success – is the love of music, the love of children, the dedication to teaching, and the special method of instruction. Marta strongly believes in the importance of establishing the correct foundation, both musical and technical, early on – actually, starting from the very first lesson – because she knows, without the right fundamentals, future growth, artistry and the free joy of music making is not going to be in reach for the student. Therefore she does not just teach to play a few pieces of music, but she truly teaches how to play the piano.
It is the mission of Tribeca Piano Studio to provide quality Suzuki and Traditional piano lessons to all levels and ages; to develop the innate musicality and a life-long love and appreciation of music in each student.
Marta established the first certified downtown Suzuki music program in 2006, and since then she has been running one of the only two certified Suzuki piano programs in downtown NYC, with thriving success and ever-growing student body – and that is Tribeca Piano Studio.
Although, Tribeca Piano primarily serves the neighborhood of Tribeca, as well as Battery Park City and the Financial District, lessons are taught in multiple locations in Manhattan. Locations include 81 White Street for downtown; 853 7th Avenue for midtown and uptown students; as well as in some cases – if schedule allows – in-home piano lessons are also available.
